Gifts by Bequest
A bequest can be made through a donor's will or trust and is the easiest way to make a planned gift. It can be in the form of a specific amount, percentage, or residue and can be made in honor or memory of a loved one. Using this method the donor keeps control of the assets during their lifetime and makes the gift upon death. These gifts will support the future mission of the Lussier Community Education Center. If you have any additional questions, please contact LCEC Executive Director, Paul Terranova at (608)833-4979 x 210.
Simply Include a Sentence
To leave a charitable gift in your will or revocable living trust, you simply include a clause that directs a gift be made to the Lussier Community Education Center. You can leave a specific dollar amount, a set percentage of your estate, or the remainder of your estate.
If you already have a will, you can add a charitable bequest with a supplement, called a codicil. Or, if it's time to update your will, you can include a gift to the Lussier Community Education Center in your updated will.
Make a General or Specific Bequest
You can make a general bequest to help provide for the most critical needs at the time the money is received. Or you can make a bequest to provide a gift to a specific program or one of our existing Endowment Funds (or consider setting up a new one). With an endowment fund your gift is invested so you can provide a permanent annual source of income for the LCEC into the future.
Here are some examples of how you may create a charitable bequest:
General bequest: I give $___(or __% of my residuary estate) to the Lussier Community Education Center of Madison, Wisconsin.
Gift to a specific program or area of interest: I give $__ (or __% of my residuary estate) to the Lussier Community Education Center of Madison, Wisconsin to support __________(children and youth programs, community organizing and leadership development, employment programs, food programs).
Designated bequest to establish a new endowment fund: I give $___ (or __% of my residuary estate) to the Madison Community Foundation of Madison, Wisconsin to establish an endowment fund for the Lussier Community Education Center of Madison, Wisconsin to support ___________.
Designated bequest to an existing endowment fund:I give $___ (or __% of my residuary estate) to the Madison Community Foundation of Madison, Wisconsin to contribute towards the endowment fund(s) of the Lussier Community Education Center of Madison, Wisconsin to support ___________(the Jane Burrows Buffett Scholars Fund OR the Children's Program Endowment Fund).
OUR EXISTING FUNDS
The Jane Burrows Buffett Scholars Program Endowment Fund provides funding for Jane Burrows Buffett Scholars Program which supports the educational advancement throughout high school of two "scholars" every year. This fund was generously established by Bill and Jan DeAtley.
The Children's Program Endowment Fund was established by anonymous donors during the LCEC capital campaign. This fund provides support for programs at the Lussier Community Education Center serving elementary, middle school, and high school age children and youth.
Charitable Gift Annuities
Another planned giving option is to set up a Charitable Gift Annuity in honor of the Lussier Community Education Center. Annuities are a type of insurance in which one receives a percentage of the gift for the rest of their life. The gift is irrevocable and the donor must be at least 60 years of age to set up an annuity. We are able to provide this type of planned giving option through the Madison Community Foundation. The minimum gift is $10,000 if added to an existing endowment (the Jane Burrows Buffett Scholars Fund OR the Children's Program Endowment Fund), $20,000 if starting a new one. When the donor passes away, 50% remains and is added to the specified endowment fund. Please find specific details about Charitable Gift Annuities on the attached page.
